Gjirokastra is an Ottoman-era museum city included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. Located in the south of Albania, 80 km from the border with Greece. The city is famous for its historical center with narrow streets, mountain air and comfortable climate. Gjirokastra is home to one of the largest fortresses on the Balkan peninsula, founded in the 12th century on the site of 6th-century Greek defenses. The majestic castle crowns the highest point of the city, rising 336 meters above sea level. From its massive walls, the entire valley of the Drin River can be seen.
LANGARICA CANYON
Langarica Canyon is located near the town of Permet. The maximum height is 150 meters above sea level. The unique combination of flora and fauna makes this place one of the most unusual and mysterious places in the country. On the slopes of the Langarica Canyon there are numerous depressions, ledges, caves that connect through tunnels. These canyons have long attracted the attention of scientists, as the exit from the canyon on both sides explodes powerful thermal sources, throwing strong streams of water with a temperature of 30 degrees Celsius. The mouth of the river crosses the old Ottoman Drina Bridge.
THERMAL SPRING
The thermal springs of Benya are an amazing landmark located at the mouth of the Langarica Canyon. The water in these reservoirs has special healing properties, and the mud has a beneficial effect on the appearance of the skin. The hot pools are located about 13 kilometers from Permet and can be reached by the old Ottoman Drina Bridge, built in 1760. Behind the bridge are fragrant grey springs of various depths, both small, suitable for children, and deeper, allowing swimming. The water temperature in the pools is about 30 degrees Celsius, so swimming is a very pleasant and relaxing activity.
